The unidentified man was reportedly part of a trio that stole a cow from Lucim Village in Orom East sub-county and were trying to flee into Karamoja sub-region before they were ambushed by security personnel.

The thieves were ambushed at the junction between Karenga district and Akurumor parish in Orom East sub-county where one of them died on the spot.

The cow also died after it was hit by a stray bullet.

William Komakech, the Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, who doubles as the chairperson of the District Security Committee, said that the security acted on a tip-off.

He noted that timely reporting of sightings of cattle rustlers has eased their work.

According to Komakech, some of these Karamojong warriors are fleeing from the ongoing disarmament exercise in the area ending up in the neighboring districts like Kitgum to cause havoc.
