International Youth Unite for Peace Through Art

In a captivating display of creativity and idealism, 23,000 youth from 53 countries showcased their visions of peace at the 6th International Loving-Peace Art Competition.

The International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) hosted the online award ceremony on November 23, attracting 800 participants worldwide.

A Symbolic Message of Hope

This year’s theme, “A heart of peace conveyed to friends suffering from war,” inspired remarkable artworks. Paola Andrea from Colombia’s Carlos Leon Gomez School took home the Grand Prize and a 1,000,000 KRW scholarship. Her artwork featured a girl’s hair transformed into clouds, symbolizing hope and peace.

Diverse and Sincere Creations

Judges praised the entries for their diversity, sincerity and powerful messages. Shona Hammond Boys, head judge, noted, “The winning works were outstanding… showing how diverse children’s art experiences are.” Soon Nam Park, Chairwoman of Korean Japanese Art Exhibition, emphasized, “I sensed a strong message of peace from the drawings.”

Empowering Women, Fostering Peace

IWPG Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon emphasized women’s crucial role in promoting peace: “Women must unite to ensure peace takes root in international society and our communities.” The IWPG aims to establish peace culture globally through initiatives like the art competition.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

Follow-up events in 20 Korean cities promoted peace and discovered local talents. The IWPG forged 70 new partnerships with civil society organizations, NGOs and corporations, including The Northern Press Bureau of Investigation and Publication, furthering its mission.
